Student Spotlight: Eric Canale

As part of the IINH Student Spotlight series, we will be visiting some of our alumni from both our Nutrition & Health Coaching and Nutritional Therapy courses to see what sparked their interest in nutrition, discuss their nutrition philosophies and find out what they’ve been up to since studying with IINH.

ABOUT ERIC CANALE

Hello, my name is Eric Canale and I am the Founder and Executive Performance Nutrition Coach at Momentum Nutrifit. After more than twenty years working in corporate real estate, I had a pretty clear view of what that kind of lifestyle actually does to you. I lived it, and so did everyone around me. People were putting in the effort, but what I kept noticing was that nutrition was almost always the missing piece. Very few were eating in a way that actually supported their performance, and that realisation is what led me to study nutrition and health coaching and found Momentum Nutrifit.

What inspired you to pursue a career in Nutrition & Health Coaching or Nutritional Therapy?

After more than twenty years working in corporate real estate across Asia, North America, and Europe, I had a pretty clear view of what that kind of lifestyle actually does to you. The long flights, the time zone changes, the late-night calls, and business dinners. I lived all of it, and so did everyone around me. People were focused, they were exercising, they were putting in the effort. But what I kept noticing was that nutrition was almost always the missing piece. So many people were working incredibly hard to stay healthy and perform, yet very few were eating in a way that actually supported it. That realization is what led me to study nutrition and health coaching, and ultimately to found Momentum Nutrifit, which is built specifically to close that gap.

CAN YOU DESCRIBE A MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE OR ACHIEVEMENT SINCE GRADUATING?

What stands out most is when a client says “you actually get it”, because I’ve sat in those back-to-back meetings, eaten at those airport restaurants and hotel buffets, and tried to stay healthy while managing a busy career. I’m not guessing at what their life looks like. I’ve lived it. That’s the combination I keep coming back to. The real-world experience paired with nutritional knowledge. It’s not just about telling someone what to eat. It’s about understanding the environment they’re actually eating in, and building something that works within that reality.

HOW HAS YOUR TRAINING INFLUENCED YOUR APPROACH TO HEALTH AND WELLNESS?

My training basically gave me the science to back up everything I’d already felt and seen firsthand. I always knew nutrition mattered, but now I understand exactly why it works, and that changes everything. Where I used to rely on instinct, I can now actually measure what’s happening, adjust, and get real results. And what I like most is that it’s never fixed, as my goals change then my approach changes with them. That flexibility is something I bring to every client too.

HOW HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR WORK POSITIVELY IMPACT OTHERS?

The impact I see most consistently is that people finally have a framework that actually works in their real life, not just in theory. Our Knowledge, Tools, and Habits model brings together everything I believe makes change sustainable: the understanding to make smarter nutritional decisions in any environment, the tools to manage and adjust with confidence, and the habits that hold up even when life gets demanding. And when those three things come together, something shifts. The results go well beyond weight or body composition. People have more energy, think more clearly, and feel more resilient. That’s what makes this work genuinely meaningful to me.

What kind of feedback have you received from clients or your community?

The feedback that stays with me most is when people say or write a review with comments such as “this has been life-changing,” “I wish I’d done this twenty years ago,” or “I’d tried everything else and nothing worked.” Those words mean a lot because they’re not coming from people who gave up or didn’t try hard enough. They’re coming from people who put in the effort for years and just never had the right approach. That’s exactly why I left my corporate career, to focus on a new career in nutrition.

WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST UNEXPECTED OR EXCITING PART OF YOUR JOURNEY SO FAR?

It’s the universality of it. Nutrition touches every single person, regardless of age, background, career, or goal, because everyone eats. What has genuinely surprised me is how many high-performing, driven people have never had access to personalised, evidence-based nutritional coaching. They’ve had personal trainers, executive coaches, and all kinds of support, but nutrition has been overlooked. The opportunity to change that is what really drives me.

WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE THINKING ABOUT STUDYING WITH IINH?

It’s a very thorough and practical education and diploma. You come out of the other side genuinely knowing what you’re doing. The nutritional science is solid, but it’s the real life experience of working with people during the program that makes the difference. That’s what actually prepares you for the actual work afterwards.
