Food Addiction or Adaptive Coping?

Exploring the Biopsychosocial Roots of Eating Behaviours and Pathways to Change.

with Denise Wogan

Is it really food addiction—or could it be an adaptive way of coping? In this webinar, wellbeing psychotherapist and nutritionist Denise Wogan invites us to take a closer look at the roots of eating behaviours through a biopsychosocial lens.

đź’ˇ What you will learn

Together, we’ll explore:

  • Food Addiction vs. Coping Mechanism – Understanding the difference and why eating behaviours develop.
  • The Biopsychosocial Factors – How biology, psychology, and social influences shape eating patterns.
  • Impact of Lived Experience – How trauma, stress, and early life shape food relationships.
  • The System’s Role – How diet culture, weight stigma, and misinformation perpetuate cycles. Supporting Change – A root-cause, client-centred approach to sustainable healing.

By situating eating behaviours within the wider context of lived experience and systemic influences, this session offers a compassionate and evidence-informed perspective. Attendees will gain practical insights into supporting sustainable change for clients and communities.
