Richard Burton BSc (Hons Nutrition) MBANT, Dip Ac
Founder & Director of IINH
Richard's working life has explored ways of improving the diet of individuals and society as a whole: as researcher, lecturer; consultant to the pharmaceutical industry on dietary fibre; science writer; health journalist; manager of wholefood company; teacher and consultant nutritionist at London's Community Health Foundation; weight management consultant; nutritional therapist. Richard's dietary counselling approach has proved successful with thousands of clients. His knowledge of Chinese Medicine enriches his teaching and counselling skills.
Dr David Smallbone M.B.,Ch.B.,L.R.C.P.,M.R.C.S.,M.F.Hom.,F.C.O.H.
Medical Doctor and Nutrition Consultant
Dr David Smallbone is a medical doctor, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences, a Member of the Faculty of Homoeopathy and a Fellow of the College of Healing. After becoming aware of the significance of good food in the maintenance of good health, Dr Smallbone began a detailed clinical and scientific study of the role played by nutrition in disease and health. In recent years most of his consulting time has been devoted to advising patients and companies on nutritional matters. Dr Smallbone is Head of Academic Studies at IINH and is an active member of the teaching staff, particularly in years 2 and 3 of the Diploma Programme.
In September 2009, Dr Smallbone became President Elect of the Food & Health Section of the UK Royal Society of Medicine, to become President in 2011.
Sally Milne BSc (Hons)
Nutritional Therapist
Sally is an experienced nutritional therapist, with a busy practice in Rathmines, Dublin and in Bray, where she takes both private clients and is a key part of the teaching team, supervising students in the training clinic.
Sally graduated from University College, London with a BSC (Hons) in Physiology and settled in Dublin 8 years ago, where she has since qualified as a Nutritional Therapist. She has always had a keen interest in the life-enhancing benefits of healthy eating, and continues to explore new recipes and cooking techniques to share with clients and students alike.
Sally is a key part of the teaching team at IINH, lecturing in physiology, biochemistry and nutritional therapy for the last 2 years.
Julia Sweetman BA (Hons), DipNT, mNTOI, mNRRI
Nutritional Therapist, Reflexologist
Julia is a Nutritional Therapist who operates a private practice in Bray, Co Wicklow. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Business and had a successful career as a Senior Manager for a large Health and Beauty Retailer. She trained as a Nutritional Therapist after personal experience of the positive impact of food and nutrition in overcoming a serious illness. She is a committee member of the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI), the professional body representing Nutritional Therapists. She is also a qualified Reflexologist and a member of the National Register of Reflexologists in Ireland.
Joan Hanrahan BSc (Hons Nutritional Therapy) MBANT, DipHM, MNIMH
Joan runs a busy practice in nutritional therapy and herbal medicine in Dalkey, where she combines nutritional support with medicinal herbs to optimise healing. Her teaching emphasises nutritional and naturopathic approaches to chronic diseases, and her clinical experience is a valuable resource for students. She is an expert on the digestive system and its relation to immunity, and the interconnectedness of body systems.
Samantha Lewis BSc Hons, DipNT, FETAC, ITEC, MBANT, MNTOI, Nutritional Therapist
Nutritional Therapist
Samantha Lewis originally graduated from Brunel University, London with a BSc Hons in Medicinal Chemistry and has spent over 15 years working in Science publishing and Pharmaceutical Clinical Research.
Samantha came into nutrition after a hobby got out of hand and she found herself booked onto the 3 Year Nutritional Therapy Diploma course at the IINH. The experience has changed her life, health and outlook forever. Based on personal and professional experience, Samantha's philosophy is that prevention is better than cure and is passionate about the impact good nutrition can have on one's health and quality of life. Samantha runs a practice in Drogheda, and her areas of interest are autoimmune disease, food intolerances, female hormone imbalances and stress/weight management.
Helen Corrigan, BA (Hons) Psych. MA (Hons) Health Promotion. Dip ION Nutr. Therapy. mBANT mNTOI
Nutritional Therapist
Helen is a nutritional therapist with a busy practice in Dublin City centre, where she sees clients with a wide variety of health conditions. She also gives talks and provides workshops to different groups, such as businesses and charities. Helen also works both as a lecturer and health researcher. She has a degree in psychology, a masters in health promotion, and a diploma in nutritional therapy from the Institute of Optimum Nutrition in London. Helen has extensive academic experience, having worked as a health researcher and lecturer in a number of the third level institutions in Ireland, including NUI, Galway, UCD, RCSI and DKIT. She has also worked in health promotion. Helen is a member of the NTOI.
Keith Ashton MBAcC MRCHM
TCM Practitioner
Keith Ashton runs a busy practice in London's Harley Street, where he combines Nutritional Therapy, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Qi Gong for the benefit of his patients. He teaches the key principles of TCM, a holistic, practical yet highly sophisticated system of healing that has served the East for millennia.
Amanda Whitewood BSc (Hons Nutrition), Dip DT, RGN, MBANT
Health Nutritionist
Amanda has many years of experience in the healthcare sector. Initially a nurse, she went on to develop a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. Her children's allergies led her into nutritional therapy, which she then studied at London's Institute of Optimum Nutrition, followed by a degree in Nutrition at Westminster University. Amanda's clinical expertise and teaching skills are in great demand. She is a council member of the British Association for Nutritional Therapy (BANT).
